We all know that there are lots of sandwich fillings. There are the classics, like ham and cheese, tuna and mayo, vegetables…all of which are considered finger food. But sometimes, you have to take a risk to get the more elegant flavors. With the coming of nice weather, many are beginning to make plans for picnics. But these plans do not have to be inherently synonymous with boring food. Check out these recipes for sandwich fillings that will surprise you with their flavors.
Mahón Cheese and Mushroom Sandwich
Sliced Mushrooms (1 pack)
Bread (4 slices)
Mahón cheese (2 slices)
Pancetta (1 thick slice)
Salt and Black Pepper
This sandwich recipe is perfect for a picnic or a party. Start by slicing the onion and the pancetta. Put both ingredients on a baking sheet along with the mushrooms, brushing them with olive oil and sprinkling them with salt and pepper. Bake them at 200 degrees for 10-12 minutes.
Put a slice of the mahón on a slice of bread, and put the mushroom mixture on top of that. Place another slice of bread on top of the mushroom mixture, heat the butter in a pan, and grill it on both sides.
Multigrain bread (8 slices)
Prawns (125 g)
Tuna (2 cans)
Krab Stick (125 g)
Gerkin Pickles (4)
Capers (1 tbsp)
Lettuce (50 g)
Salt and Black Pepper
This sandwich is a delight that you can’t miss. The first step is to defrost the prawns and peel them. Next, sautee them in a frying pan with olive oil. Meanwhile, boil the egg. When the egg is ready, take out the yolk, which we will use later in the recipe. You can simply cut the egg in half and remove the yolk with a spoon.
Chop the onion and capers into tiny pieces. Cut the krab stick and pickles into thin slices. Throw the onions, capers, krab stick, and pickles into a bowl with the prawns and tuna. Add the mayonnaise and mix. The mixture should be more or less dry. Add the egg yolk by smashing it into the mixture with a fork. Season it and let it cool in the fridge for 40 minutes.
To construct the sandwich, place the lettuce slices on both slices of bread and put the filling on top of one of the slices. Now put the two slices together. The lettuce keeps the slices of bread from getting soggy.
Sandwich bread (8 slices)
Fried Tomato (8 tbsp)
Mayonnaise (8 tbsp)
Pineapple (2 slices)
Cheese (1 small wedge)
Ham (8 slices)
This sandwich is perfect for the hotter months. Drain the pineapple and cube the cheese. Mix the pineapple, cheese, mayonnaise, and tomato in a bowl. Place a slice of ham on top of a slice of bread, and pour the mixture on top of that. Place the other slice of bread on top and enjoy!
To play with the flavors, you can try this recipe with cream cheese.
Honey and Sobrasada Sandwich
Sobrasada (a type of sausage) (180 g)
Honey (100 g)
The Sobrasada from Mallorca is one of the most flavorful sausages. In this case, we will use the spreadable kind. Mix the honey with the sobrasada and spread over toasted bread. Place a slice of cheese on top of this. You can garnish the sandwich with a bit more honey on top of the cheese, but it is not necessary.
You can put a finishing touch on this sandwich with a few leaves of lettuce.
Salmon and Avocado Sandwich
Lettuce (or other leafy greens)
This is one of the simplest and tastiest sandwiches you can make. Begin by spreading the cream cheese on the bread and add a few slices of tomato. Add to this a bit of the lettuce, the avocado with a few drops of the lemon juice, and the smoked salmon. Place the other slice of bread on top and toast it a little in a frying pan with some olive oil or butter. It’s simple, but it’s exquisite.
